Service: HVAC Commissioning, Water Treatment & Legionella Risk Assessment

Project: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary

Client: Crown House Technologies

The new Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary has recently experienced a successful turnover, after being completed on schedule and within budget. High Wood Health’s construction partner, Laing O’Rourke were the builders assigned to this construction and recently handed the keys of the establishment over to NHS Dumfries and Galloway. Cleartech were engaged by Crown House Technologies for this project and completed HVAC commissioning, water treatment and a construction phase Legionella risk assessment and water hygiene survey of the full establishment. The next 12 weeks will see the building being fully equipped and staff orientations taking place, before patients begin to move over, from the old hospital, in December.

Project Overview

Scope of Works:

  • Construction phase Legionella risk assessment and water hygiene survey
  • Chemical cleaning to BSRIA BG 29/2012
  • Dosing of corrosion inhibitor, glycols and biocides
  • Commissioning and balancing of hydraulic closed systems
  • Commissioning Reports
  • RPZ valve commissioning
  • LTHW checks

Cleartech’s Approach

The works included the filling of each hydraulic circuit with biocide treated water, thereafter, the system underwent a full pre-commission chemical clean via side stream technology, final dosing of corrosion inhibitor, glycols and biocides in accordance with BSRIA BG 29/2012 and in line with full project specification. The hydraulic closed systems were then commissioned and balanced as per C.I.B.S.E code ‘W’ and in line with full project specification. Our engineers also carried out RPZ valve commissioning and LTHW checks for water quality levels, chemical levels and side stream filter checks.

Our City & Guilds qualified risk assessor carried out a construction phase Legionella risk assessment and water hygiene survey on the hospital before it was officially handed over to NHS Dumfries & Galloway. A Legionella risk assessment consists of identifying potential risks of your building being contaminated with Legionella bacteria. The document itself includes; site survey data, an asset register, observations with photographic evidence, a property/asset risk rating, recommendations to reduce that risk, a schematic drawing of the water system, a Legionella monitoring regime and Legionella and microbiological analysis.
